Some days, you wake up and feel as though you might die (yes, dramatic) and that the only thing you want is either salty and full of fat or made of chocolate and sugar (which will just turn into fat).  I have these days too!  But before you despair and either dive into a bag of sugar-death candies or cry in misery while eating organic spelt bread with healthy things on it, today I bring you hope!  Hope for something lovely and comforting that you can put in a bowl (the only proper conveyance for comfort foods) and put whatever else you like on it (key criteria: customizable options) but that isn’t full of sugar and won’t make you feel worse after you eat it. Happy Monday, everyone!

I trust you’re having a great start to the week.  (Mondays are a great day to start everything off freshly!)  I wanted to quickly share with you some things that I’ve been want to for a while now.  The issue of the “detox”.  Right now, it’s very popular to do different cleanses and diets and drink strange medicinal-tasting things in the hopes of ridding your body of things that are not good for it that it may have acquired due to diet, environments, etc.  There are different motivations behind these: better health, losing weight, feeling more confident, a pang of health-consciousness etc.  None of those are bad in their own right, but it’s also wise to investigate it before you jump in feet first. For today’s post, I wanted to share a really special fall tradition with you.  Every year, my family treks to Bala, Ontario to the Cranberry Marsh.  We buy lots of cranberries fresh out of the flooded marsh, buy tiny gourds, walk around the marsh, get apple cider and enjoy all things Muskoka!  Every year Bala hosts a Cranberry Festival on the weekend following Canadian Thanksgiving, and it’s always amazing how many people can fit into a tiny Muskoka town like Bala.  (We don’t go that weekend, because it’s just as much fun on other weekends, and you don’t have to spend most of the day waiting in traffic).  I always get the feeling that if I didn’t know how to get to Bala, I’d never find it accidentally. Some foods don’t seem to get the attention that they are due; either because they’re not “pretty” looking, or because you’re not sure how to cook them, but underneath all of their root-vegetable charm is something special!  I don’t know if you do this, but sometimes when I go to the store and am doing my groceries, I’ll see something that I know I can find something good to do with it, and I’ll just buy it as a little challenge with myself to figure out something to make with it before it goes bad.  And I am so glad that I did it.  This week, I bought a yellow turnip(commonly: rhutabaga).  (It was on sale, and I unashamedly like turnips). This week I have something really exciting to share, so I made a little video announcement for you!

I will be having a table at the Durham District School Board Wellness Fair on Wednesday October 15, 2014!

There will be a draw for a free first session, and lots of fun things to do!  If you have a chance, I’d encourage you to come out!

This is your chance!

There will be lots of other excellent practitioners there as well, and you don’t want to miss out!

Below is the invitation!
